At Churcham Primary School, we are committed to ensuring every child can learn, respect and grow together as a whole school family. Pupil Premium funding enables us to remove barriers, close attainment gaps, and provide high‑quality opportunities for disadvantaged pupils.
Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the Department for Education to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils, including those who:
are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) or have been at any point in the last 6 years (Ever 6 FSM)
are looked‑after or previously looked‑after children
are children of service families (Service Pupil Premium)
The Pupil Premium grant aims to:
raise attainment for disadvantaged pupils
reduce educational inequality
support schools to use evidence‑based approaches to improve outcomes
ensure funding is used effectively and transparently
The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) provides a strong evidence base for effective strategies, and schools are encouraged to use this when planning provision.
We use our Pupil Premium funding to support all pupils through high‑quality teaching, targeted interventions, and wider opportunities. Our approach is rooted in the DfE’s menu of approaches, which includes:
High‑quality teaching (e.g., small‑group instruction, reading support, phonics interventions)
Targeted academic support (e.g., tutoring, structured interventions)
Wider strategies (e.g., attendance support, social/emotional development, enrichment)
Examples of how Churcham Primary School uses Pupil Premium include:
additional staffing for 1:1 and small‑group tutoring
subsidised residential trips and enrichment experiences
funded music lessons
targeted reading resources and intervention materials
pastoral support for vulnerable learners
