Physical Education at Churcham

Learning, respecting and growing together as a whole school family

“Physical and social resilience”

Our Vision for Physical Education

At Churcham Primary School, Physical Education plays a vital role in supporting pupils’ physical health, mental wellbeing and personal development. Through a rich, inclusive and progressive curriculum, pupils build physical competence, confidence and resilience while developing essential social skills such as cooperation, empathy and teamwork.

PE at Churcham is not just about physical activity — it is about nurturing confident, motivated and socially responsible young people who enjoy being active and understand the importance of leading healthy lives.

INTENT

Our PE curriculum, built around the GetSet4PE scheme, ensures pupils develop the fundamental movement skills, knowledge and confidence needed to participate successfully in a wide range of physical activities.

We aim for pupils to:

  • Develop fundamental movement skills

  • Build strength, stamina and physical resilience

  • Understand the short‑ and long‑term effects of exercise

  • Acquire knowledge and skills across key activity areas

  • Work cooperatively, showing empathy, respect and fairness

  • Build perseverance and resilience through challenge

PE also contributes significantly to pupils’ social, moral, spiritual and cultural development. Cooperation, negotiation and honesty are woven through lessons, and creativity is nurtured through dance and gymnastics.

Our curriculum is enriched through extra‑curricular clubs, inter‑school events, competitions and residential experiences for KS2 pupils.
