Learning, respecting and growing together as a whole school family

“Understanding myself and others”

Our Vision for Personal, Social, Health & Relationships Education

At Churcham Primary School, PSHE and RSE are central to developing confident, emotionally intelligent and responsible young citizens. Our curriculum supports pupils to understand themselves, build healthy relationships, stay safe and thrive within their community.

We believe every child deserves the knowledge, skills and strategies to navigate modern life with resilience, empathy and self‑belief. Through high‑quality teaching and a nurturing environment, we help pupils grow into thoughtful, respectful and independent individuals.

INTENT

Our PSHE/RSE curriculum is designed to equip pupils with the essential skills needed to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society.

We aim for pupils to:

  • Understand and manage their emotions

  • Build and maintain positive relationships

  • Develop resilience, empathy and self‑worth

  • Stay safe and make informed choices

  • Communicate respectfully and confidently

  • Contribute positively to their community

Our programme of study — SCARF (Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship) — supports whole‑child development through carefully planned, resourced and progressive lessons.

By the time pupils leave Churcham, they will have the emotional intelligence, wellbeing strategies and confidence needed to flourish in modern life.

IMPLEMENTATION

PSHE/RSE is taught weekly across the whole school using a consistent, progressive approach. Our curriculum includes all statutory Relationships and Health Education content and is organised into a four‑year rolling programme to ensure full coverage without repetition.

Our Six Half‑Termly Themes

  • Me and My Relationships – healthy relationships, communication, conflict resolution

  • Valuing Differences – diversity, inclusion, anti‑bullying

  • Keeping Safe – recognising risks, knowing who and where is safe

  • Rights and Respect – personal responsibility, community roles, financial awareness

  • Being My Best – achievements, self‑esteem, aspirations

  • Growing and Changing – age‑appropriate RSE, managing change positively
