Forest School at Churcham

Our Forest School provision is an important part of life at Churcham and a much‑loved feature of our wider curriculum. We are fortunate to have a dedicated Forest School area at the bottom of the field, providing children with a rich outdoor learning environment that they can explore in all weathers. Sessions are supported by our Forest School Lead, who is currently completing accredited Forest School training, further strengthening our expertise and long‑term commitment to outdoor learning.

Forest School gives children the chance to follow their own interests, make choices and take ownership of their learning. Through hands‑on experiences, they develop independence, resilience, self‑confidence and teamwork. Children learn to communicate clearly, solve problems collaboratively and persevere when faced with challenges.

Risk taking is an important part of Forest School. Children learn how to assess and manage risks safely, understanding the importance of respect and trust for themselves, each other and the environment. These experiences help them build responsible attitudes and a strong awareness of how their actions influence the level of risk that can be undertaken safely.

There is always something to discover at Forest School. Children might be helping with site management, hunting for bugs, getting gloriously muddy in the mud pit, building with tools, cooking on the fire or creating dens. Every session offers purposeful learning, adventure and plenty of fun.

Forest School enriches our curriculum and supports pupils’ personal development. It helps children grow as confident, capable learners who enjoy being outdoors, care for their environment and take pride in their achievements.
