Hello and welcome to Class 2
Welcome to Class 2’s page.
Our vision in Class 2 is learning, respecting and growing together as a whole school family. Our class values are friendship, respect, trust and truthfulness, and these guide how we learn and work together every day.
Class 2 is taught by Miss Deackes and Mr Davies for Year 5 and Year 6, and Mrs Dodd teaches Year 3 and Year 4. We are also supported by a dedicated team: Miss Tippins (Teaching Partner), Miss Asher (Teaching Partner) and Miss Daniels (SENDCo).
We are a mixed‑age class of Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 pupils, and we see this as a real strength. Children learn to support one another, model positive learning behaviours and celebrate each other’s achievements. Although we enjoy working together as a whole class, teaching is carefully planned to meet the specific needs of each year group so that every child is challenged and supported appropriately.

Reading in Class 2:
At Churcham Primary School, reading is at the heart of everything we do in Class 2. We are passionate about developing lifelong readers and creating a love of books that supports learning across the curriculum.
Children enjoy independent reading at least twice every day, giving them regular opportunities to practise and develop their reading skills. They can also choose to read during breaktimes and lunchtimes using our popular Book Wheelbarrow, which is managed by our fantastic Library Monitors. This provides an exciting way for children to access a wide range of books and enjoy reading with their friends throughout the day. In addition, our playground features a cosy Reading Nook, complete with cushions and a selection of books, where children can relax, unwind and enjoy reading in a quiet outdoor space.
Each afternoon, we come together for whole-class reading, where children can listen to high-quality texts, discuss ideas and discover new authors and genres. These shared reading experiences help to develop vocabulary, comprehension and a genuine enjoyment of literature.
We also celebrate reading achievements through our Reading Raffle. Children who read at home five times each week and have their reading diary signed by an adult are entered into a special prize draw, with lucky winners receiving a reward. This encourages regular reading habits and strengthens the partnership between home and school.
We strongly encourage parents and carers to read with their child every day, whether this is listening to them read, sharing a story together or discussing what they have read. We ask that parents record these reading sessions in their child's reading diary, helping us to celebrate and monitor progress both at home and in school.
Alongside this, children take part in daily reading comprehension sessions which focus on the VIPERS reading skills. VIPERS helps children develop a deeper understanding of what they read by focusing on:
Vocabulary – understanding the meaning of words and phrases
Inference – using clues from the text to work out meaning
Prediction – making sensible guesses about what might happen next
Explanation – explaining ideas, authors' choices and understanding
Retrieval – finding and recalling information from the text
Sequence (Key Stage 1) / Summarise (Key Stage 2) – ordering events or summarising key information
Through these daily opportunities, Class 2 children build confidence, fluency and comprehension skills, helping them to become enthusiastic, successful readers who are ready to explore the world through books.

Times Table Simulator - This is an ‘online times tables test’, this will improve your child’s recall of their times tables.
Top Marks – Top Marks is an excellent website which covers all topics in Maths. It includes a lot of games for the children to play, so they do enjoy learning through play! My favourite game on here is ‘Tommy’s Trek’.
Maths Frame - Maths frame is a great website offering Maths games to support your child’s understanding of the four operations (multiplication, division, subtraction and addition).
NRICH - NRICH is a fantastic resource which offers problem solving games and challenges.
