Welcome to Class 1's page!
Our vision in Class 1 is learning, respecting and growing together as a whole school family. Our class values are friendship, respect and kindness, and these guide how we learn and work together every day.
Class 1 is taught by Miss Foylan and supported by Miss Muirhead (teaching partner) and Miss Daniels (SENDCo).
We are a mixed-age class of Reception, Year 1 and 2 pupils, and we see this as a real strength. Children learn to support one another, model positive learning behaviours and celebrate each other's achievements. Although we enjoy working together as a whole class, teaching is carefully planned to meet the specific needs of each year group so that every child is challenged and supported appropriately.

Further Information:
In Phonics, we use Little Wandle to provide a consistent and structured approach to early reading.
In English, we use The Write Stuff to support high‑quality modelling and sentence construction.
In Maths, we follow White Rose planning and resources to build secure understanding and fluency. We also use Rainbow Maths to build fluency, accuracy and confidence.
Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday.

*Please note that Continuous Provision (which we call Exploring) is not on the timetable, pupils have lots of time to learn through play and activities throughout the day.

Reading in Class 1:
At Churcham Primary School, reading is at the heart of everything we do in Class 1. We are passionate about developing lifelong readers and creating a love of books that supports learning across the curriculum.
Children enjoy independent reading everyday during our Quiet Reading time, where they can explore, read and chat about different books from our dedicated reading area. They can also choose to read during breaktimes and lunchtimes using our popular Book Wheelbarrow, which is managed by Churcham's fantastic Library Monitors. This provides an exciting way for children to access a wide range of books and enjoy reading with their friends throughout the day. In addition, our playground features a cosy Reading Nook, complete with cushions and a selection of books, where children can relax, unwind and enjoy reading in a quiet outdoor space.
Alongside this, the children in Class 1 are read to twice daily by an adult in the class, this is called Story Time. During Story Time children can listen, ask and answer questions about the text, we read a range of books including fiction and non-fiction picture and chapter books.
As part of our Phonics, children read in groups 3x a week, we call this Group Read. Group Read allows the children to focus on fluency, prosody and comprehension. During fluency, children get used to the new book, we look at the sounds, tricky words and new vocabulary. This means the children are exposed to new words each week, allowing them to understand and become fluent with them when reading their texts. We then move onto prosody, encouraging children to read with expression. This allows children to demonstrate a strong understanding of the text by picking up on use of punctuation, speech and emotions. We finish the week of Group Read with comprehension. The children are faced with questions that involve recall and retrieval of events, using inference skills to find information, and giving their own opinions on the texts.
We strongly encourage parents and carers to read with their child every day, whether this is listening to them read, sharing a story together or discussing what they have read. We ask that parents record these reading sessions in their child's reading diary, helping us celebrate and monitor progress both at home and in school.
We also celebrate reading achievements through our Reading Raffle. Children who read at home 5x each week, and have their reading records signed by an adult, are entered into a special prize draw, with lucky winners receiving a reward. This encourages regular reading habits and strengthens the partnership between home and school.
Through these daily opportunities, Class 1 children build confidence, fluency and comprehension skills, helping them to become enthusiastic, successful readers who are ready to explore the world through books.
