Complaints Procedure

At Churcham Primary School, we are committed to providing the highest quality education and maintaining positive, respectful relationships with parents, carers and our wider community. We recognise that, from time to time, concerns or complaints may arise. When they do, we aim to resolve issues quickly, fairly and informally wherever possible.

Our Complaints Policy sets out the steps to follow if you have a concern about any aspect of school life. We encourage parents to raise issues early so that they can be addressed promptly.

Our Legal Duty

Under Section 29 of the Education Act 2002, all school governing bodies must have a formal procedure for dealing with complaints. This procedure must be published and made available to parents. Complaints should always be raised with the school first, following the stages outlined in our policy.

If a concern cannot be resolved informally, it will move through the formal stages of the school’s complaints process. The Local Authority may offer advice, but it will not become involved unless the school’s procedure has been fully followed.

How We Handle Complaints

We follow a clear, structured process:

  • Stage 1 – Informal Resolution:
Speak with your child’s class teacher or a member of staff. Many concerns can be resolved quickly at this stage.

  • Stage 2 – Formal Complaint to the Headteacher:
If the issue remains unresolved, a formal complaint can be submitted to the Headteacher in writing.

  • Stage 3 – Review by the Governing Body:
If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may request that the Governing Body reviews the complaint.

Throughout the process, we aim to communicate clearly, act fairly, and ensure that all parties are treated with respect.
